Haphazard Journal #20: Shawn Mendes The Tour Jakarta

Another bucket list is checked! I’m extremely excited to write this down because I’ve been waiting to see him for quite a while.

Earlier this month, on 8th October 2019 to be exact, I got the chance to see Shawn Mendes live! I do believe this is his third world-tour and it’s to promote his newest album. The concert was held in SICC (Sentul International Convention Center) in Bogor.

He is one of the biggest and hottest musicians right now with his albums and songs in the world’s chart so seeing him live is truly a dream and an exciting moment.

SICC was perfect for the venue as it was big and able to accommodate the event well. Though, I won’t say that the bathroom line was convenient but other than that, all was great!

The band and Shawn himself sounded really amazing. Shawn often did improvisation when he sings, like wow he really got some stunning singing skill. Hearing him live is such a thrilling experience. He sounds the same like when you hear him on the radio or any streaming platform yet, there is something more to it when you hear him live.

The set-list of his songs is also great. Shawn sings his new songs from the newest album, his original songs which make him known world-wide like “Life of TheParty”, his big hits like Mercy, In My Blood and also his world-record collaboration with Camila Cabello “Senorita” and Like To Be You with Julia Michaels. I couldn’t even pick a favorite song because they are all wonderful.

I have several highlights of the concert which leaves a delightful place in my heart. First of, his energy on the stage was simply stunning and charming. Shawn vibrates such positive energy. He often interacted with the audience, asking how we were doing or whether or not we were enjoying the night. He moved for one stage to another and also took his time to greet his fans on the barricade.

At one point, he thanked us for supporting him, for helping him to come this far and saying that he wouldn’t be where he is without our support so he asked us to never stop singing. He said, “…please do not stop singing, as loud as you can.” Shawn wanted us to enjoy the song together with him, which was very sweet of him to say so.

During Youth, he also informed us that Youth is not about the age; it’s about the spirit of youth and encourages us to the fact that we can change the world together if we want to. Like I said, he really brings such a positive attitude to the stage.

The visual was also breath-taking. He has this ‘flower’ stage and it lit up with little light.  It was really captivating when he plays the piano there it was just beautiful.


 Overall, Shawn really delivers an incredible and thoughtful performance; he was making sure that we, the fans, also enjoys every minute of it. It was an incredible experience and another dream come true

If he does have another tour next year or in the future, I wouldn’t want to miss it in a heartbeat!
