HAPHAZARD JOURNAL #6: The Script Concert.

HEYYYY! I’m back! I’m super excited to share this post to whoever has the time to read it. The title itself is explanatory. Yep! That’s right! I’m going to tell you my experience of The Script concert.

So, about two days ago, precisely on April 10th, 2018, I finally got the chance to see one of my favorite bands, The Script! For those of you who don’t know who The Script is (where have you been seriously), they are an Irish rock band which was formed in 2001 in Dublin, Ireland. It has three leading members which are Danny O’Donoghue, the lead vocalist and keyboardist, Mark Sheehan, lead guitarist and Glen Power, Drummer. You have probably heard their successful singles such as “The Man Who Can’t be Moved” or “Breakeven” that are of course legendary and still hold its magic to this day. They are currently doing tour all around the world and it is called Freedom Child Tour which is taken from their fifth album entitled Freedom Child. They started their first Asian Tour in Jakarta, Indonesia, which meant my concert day was the first stop! Wohoo!

I’ve been dying to see The Script live since a long time. They have visited Indonesia previously, if I’m not mistaken, it was in 2011. However, the previous concert was sponsored by Guinness Indonesia to celebrate Guinness Arthur’s Day which included beer; therefore, there was age limitation, if you are not twenty one or above, you couldn’t come. At the time I was only 17 so clearly I was devastated for I couldn’t attend the concert. But finally, in late 2017, they announced that they are going to visit Indonesia again! So without hesitation, I bought the ticket. I can finally see Dan, Mark, and Glen live and sing along to their song out of my lungs!

The concert was held in The Kasablanka Hall, Jakarta. If I’m being honest, I thought the venue would be bigger considering The Script is a well-known band with huge fan base in Indonesia and all over the world. Thus, I thought the venue was quite small. Nonetheless, they sound amazing as they always do.

The set-list of the concert consisted of songs from their previous and newest album as well as their hit singles such as Rain, Superheroes, The Man Who Can’t be Moved, Breakeven, Hall of Fame and many more. Luckily, they also sang my favorite songs such as For the First Time, If You Could See Me Now, No Good in Goodbye and Arms Open. If I could ask for an addition, I would love to listen to Man On Wire and Millionaire live! But other than that, I really had no complaint whatsoever. I can’t believe how humble and down to earth they were on the stage! They can’t seem to stop praising the crowd which of course made the crowd went nuts. They said “cinta mati” which in English is “love to death” to describe how they feel with the crowd and Indonesia. They also mentioned that they didn’t expect to receive such great reaction and responds from the crowd. Moreover, they said that it was one of the best moments of their tour so far and I couldn’t agree more. It was like a massive karaoke moments, with the actual band playing! The look on their face when the crowd sang together and sang with Dan was indescribable. I can say that Dan, Mark and Glen delivered an insane amount of energy to the crowd. They jumped up and down, ran around the stage and played the music like a beast. Just like their song, the ‘energy never dies’. There were also plenty of confetti thrown to the crowd, such as during ‘Paint The Town Green’ and the final song ‘Hall of Fame’ which was super fun! Additionally, Danny kept going around, approaching another section and taking over the crowds’ phone. At one point, they moved and sang in the Festival section. Danny was wearing Batik, Indonesia’s traditional attire and they sang one of their first single ‘We Cry’ with Indonesian beat boxer.

The crowd at the concert was pretty wild. Before going into the venue, there was some chaos because people fought to be the first entering the venue. Nevertheless, the crowd was certainly having a good time, dancing around and jamming to the songs passionately. Even though some people kept pushing around here and there, it’s nothing I couldn’t handle. The crowd was even super supportive and excited when Danny, Mark and Glen told us that they were going to do a crowd control like they always do in their concert which turned out to be super exciting.

All I can say is I really had a good time in the concert. It was tiring of course but everything is worth it. My highlight of the night besides jamming to The Script’s songs is seeing how appreciative the band was to the fans, in my point of view, I can even see it from their eyes and gesture. Lastly, The Script left us with a promise that they are going to visit Indonesia again next year and of course I will see them again!
