Who
doesn’t know the story of the boy-who-lived and he-who-must-not-be-named? I
truly believe that the story of Harry Potter has become a part of a lot of
people’s live as they grow up, including mine. Honestly, I couldn’t have picked
and fallen in love with a better story to grow up with. Still to this day,
Harry Potter series are one of my favorite books. Like many other people, I was
devastated when the story ends. Nonetheless, another one comes along to ease
that ‘homesickness’ for this story. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is
actually a British two-part stage play written by Jack Thorne based on an
original story by Thorne, J. K. Rowling and John Tiffany.
In
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the story takes place nineteen years after
the Battle of Hogwarts. Taking from the synopsis of the book:
“It
was always difficult being Harry Potter, and it isn’t much easier now that he
is an overworked employee at the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and a father of
three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to
stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of
a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both
father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from
unexpected places.”
To
sum it up, the story focuses on the adventure of Albus Severus Potter, Harry’s
youngest son. He faces several struggles being in the shadow of his father as
well as dealing with the fact that he is shorted into Slytherin. Albus
befriends with an unlikely match, well in Harry’s day it seems to be unlikely,
because Albus’ best friend is a Malfoy, Scorpious Malfoy the son of Draco
Malfoy. Together, they go on the journey back in time to save Cedric Diggory
which turns out to have its darker story.
Personally,
this is such a great story for those who miss the Wizarding World of Harry
Potter. Though the plot is very simple, it still holds its magic for its
reader. Even though it is more of a script than a book, it’s still very fun to
read and see Harry’s character develop as a father figure. My favorite part
would be when Harry, Ginny, Ron and Malfoy stay in union to defend Hermione as
she is objected by the member of parliaments in the Ministry of Magic when she
decided to keep the time-turner. It’s that particular scene which I found very ‘Harry
Potter’; you know the friendship, standing up for each other kind of thing.
I’d
really love to see J.K. Rowling develops this screen play into a real book with
more back story and description. Don’t you all, Potterheads? And it’d be even
better if I get to see it on the screen. But as Tony Stark said, part of the
journey is the end…well, maybe this could be the last one of Harry Potter
stories. But at least, their stories will linger in our heart forever.
Because,
after all time? ALWAYS.
