HAPHAZARD TALE #1: Airport.

The time shows 11.30 pm. The airport is usually empty. But then again, it’s an airport; it’s rarely ‘that’ empty. As always, there she is, sitting in the corner pretending to read a book. With black baseball cap, sunglasses and a suitcase beside her, people may have mistaken her for another regular passenger of one of the plane. But no, she isn’t, that’s not why she comes here.

Starry, that’s her name. A beautiful name. Her parents wanted her to shine bright, to be a star that could light up the room. She often laughs when she thinks of it. It’s such an irony because that is not her at all. Starry might be her name, but in reality, she is the sky in the darkest night.

People begin to pack the airport as several flights are about to take off. She loves it here since she can absorb tons of feelings, feelings that she no longer has. Airport is a place full of emotion. She can feel the warmth and happiness of people welcoming their loved ones home. The hugs, the tears, the smile, she can vibrate all of it and finally feel something inside her. Feeling alive is what she desires. A tight hug as if the person will not want to let you go, is what she can see in this place. Happiness is not the only feeling she can feel, she can also grip sadness. You see tons of sadness in airport. People saying goodbye to their loved ones, tears stream down their faces remembering the fact that they have to be away for long. They are lucky, she thought. They are lucky to have someone that makes goodbye hard because she isn’t.

She feels tears streaming down her face as she sees people saying hello and goodbye. This is good. This is how she stays to feel alive. Even though this is temporary. This is okay; she can always do it again tomorrow.

She gets up from her favorite spot to absorb it all when suddenly; a pat on the back startles her.

“Excuse me, do you know which gate this is?” he smiles as he shows his tickets. Out of the blue, warmth covers her face.
