Hi everybody! I’m finally back with the movie updates. Today, I’d like to share several short thoughts of the movie that I’ve watched recently. So, without further do, here we go!
Personal Ratings: 3.8/5
IMDb: 6.8/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 65%
Director: Susanne Bier

Bird Box tells a journey of a woman called Malorie who has to survive in a supernatural catastrophic event along with two children. This movie is a post-apocalyptic thriller based on the 2014 novel of the same title by Josh Malerman. In general, we follow the journey of Malory with ‘a boy and a girl’ who need to make it through a forest and river blindfolded. They need to avoid supernatural entities which take the appearance of their victims’ worst fears, regrets that triggers them to kill themselves.
Personally, I do believe that this movie is quite similar with ‘A Quite Place’. In ‘A Quite Place’, the characters are not allowed to make any sound or you will die; nonetheless, in Bird Box, you ought not to see or else you are going to kill yourself. So, there are similarities here and there. Despite all that, this movie will indeed keep you on the edge, the suspense, some deaths and the journey will make you hold your breath. My favorite moments of the movie (spoiler alert) and definitely the scene stealer are the boy and the girl. My favorite scene would be when the girl volunteers herself to see on the river so Malorie and the boy can go pass the river safely. She willingly sacrifices and accepts the fact that she’s going to die. I mean…just wow! And her face is just too innocent and pure.
2. That’s My Boy
Personal Ratings: 2.7/5
IMDb: 5.6/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 20%
Director: Sean Anders
Initial Release: June 14, 2012

That’s My Boy follows the life of Donny Berger who had a sexual affair with his own teacher and eventually got her pregnant. When the relationship is discovered, the teacher is sent to present and the custody of the child is given to Donny. Later on, Donny owes a huge amount of money or else he has to go to the jail. Hence, he tries to get some money from his son who is now successful and has changed his name. Everything happens during his son’s wedding weekend which takes a turn on their life.
From my standpoint, this is just like any light comedy movie out there. It’s fun to watch and there are some funny scenes as well. As for the story, I can say that there is nothing special about it. It’s just a typical comedy movie. Nonetheless, it’s fun to watch if you just wanna take your mind off of things.
3. The Little Mermaid
Personal Ratings: 4/5
IMDb: 7.6/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 92%
Director: Ron Clements, John Musker
Initial Release: November 13, 1989
Voice Actors & Actresses: René Auberjonois, Christopher Daniel Barnes, Jodi Benson, Pat Carroll, Paddi Edwards, Buddy Hackett, Jason Marin
I’m sure this movie does not need any introduction since I do believe that most of the people have watched this. However, I haven’t fully watched this movie before. So, here goes my short thought.
For those who haven’t seen the movie, the story follows the life of a rebellious 16-year-old mermaid Ariel who is fascinated with life on land. On one of her visits to the surface, which are forbidden by her controlling father, King Triton, she falls for a human prince. Determined to be with her new love, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula (Pat Carroll) to become human for three days. But when plans go awry for the star-crossed lovers, the king must make the ultimate sacrifice for his daughter.
There is no doubt that Disney is one of the best in creating animation story. Even though, it was released almost 20 years ago, the story is still really fun to watch and quite relatable. Additionally, the songs are wonderful and still hold its magic even until now. So, if you have had the chance to watch it, you better watch it now! Because better late than never.
4. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Personal Ratings: 3.8/5
IMDb: 6.5/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 77%
Director: Ken Kwapis
Initial Release: May 31, 2005
Starring: Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, Blake Lively, Amber Tamblyn
A classic comedy-drama film. This movie is based on the novel of the same title by Ann Brashares. The story centers in the life of four best friends, Bridget (Blake Lively), Carmen (America Ferrera), Lena (Alexis Bledel) and Tibby (Amber Tamblyn); living in Maryland. After many summers together, the four are finally going their separate ways for a few months: while Bridget heads to Mexico, and Lena visits family in Greece, Carmen and Tibby stay closer to home. No matter where they are, they are connected by a pair of jeans that they take turns sharing -- pants that fit all four girls and exemplify their tight bond.
First off, for me, this is a classic chick-flick movie where you usually watch during girls’ night out or sleep over. You get to find all sorts of emotions in this film, whether it’s sadness, happiness or anger. The story also covers several issues of self, family, independence, friends and many more. In general, this is a fun movie to watch and definitely the one that you could watch more than once. I’d like to say that I also like the characters development during the story. There is also some super sad scene where I bawled my eyes out. So, it’s definitely a good one to watch! Plus, Blake Lively, are you a vampire? Cause she doesn’t seem to age a day!
5. Aquaman
Personal Ratings: 3.8/5
IMDb: 7.6/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 65%
Director: James Wan
Initial Release: December 7, 2018
Starring: Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Kidman
Another superhero movie from DC Comics! I’m sure most of you have known about Aquaman. Generally, in Aquaman, Arthur Curry, the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, must step forward to lead his people against his half-brother, Orm, who seeks to unite the seven underwater kingdoms against the surface world.
In my personal opinion, Aquaman is my second favorite DC Movie after Wonder Woman. I’ve said it so many times that I’m a sucker for an action movie with so many kick-ass visual effects, and I do believe that this one is one of them. Even though the visual effect is not the best, but definitely it’s still pleasing to the eye. Additionally, I’ve rarely seen a battle underwater with sharks and other sea animals involved; hence, it’s really interesting to watch. I couldn’t give a solid 4 or more, as in the middle of the story I kind of doze off, so for me there is actually part of the movie that is unnecessary to be shown. The conflict of the movie is pretty general or common as well. However, it is a fun DC Comics movie for sure. Jason Momoa is definitely the perfect Aquaman even though he will always be Khal Drogo in my eyes lol. And Amber Heard, she is super gorgeous!
6. Bumblebee
Personal Ratings: 3.9/5
IMDb: 7.3/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 93%
Initial Release: December 3, 2018
Director: Travis Knight
Starring: Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, Pamela Adlon
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee the Autobot seeks refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie, on the brink of turning 18 years old and trying to find her place in the world, soon discovers the battle-scarred and broken Bumblebee. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns that this is no ordinary yellow Volkswagen.
First and foremost, I don’t really follow the Transformer series. I’ve watched some of the movies but I’m not really a fan of it. However, I’ve heard good things about this Spin-Off so naturally, I’m curious to see it. What I like the most from this movie is the chemistry between Bumblebee and Charlie, they really nailed it! The plot of story is pretty standard for me. It covers the general issues of love, friendship and family. Overall, it’s fun and entertaining family movie.
7. #REALITYHIGH
Personal Ratings: 2.7/5
IMDb: 5.2/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 40%
Initial Release: September 8, 2017
Director: Fernando Lebrija
Starring: Nesta Cooper, Keith Powers
An overachieving high school girl competes against a social-media-obsessed classmate for the attention of a hunky guy.
#REALITYHIGH is produced by Netflix. It is your typical chick-lit movie with typical teenage problem during high-school, namely popularity, friends and love. The main character of the film is Dani Barnes who is considered as ‘nerd’ with an evil ex-best friend called Alexa Medina. They basically fight for the attention of Cameron, who is a popular guy in the school. Well, this is an entertaining movie to say the least but there is nothing different than your regular teenage movie.
That's is all for today's movie update! I do believe that whoever come across my blog would see this far more often because I've got so many movie lists that I'm going to watch so you better watch out! lol. See you on the next post!
